The College of Law understands the significance of hands-on experience for lawyers in training. Residencies—offered multiple times per year—give students valuable skill-building experience, the opportunity to work alongside peers, and a chance to visit Dineen Hall to interact with faculty, students, and alumni.

Legal Foundations | Semester One, Year One | Syracuse
Residency #1 – Five days, third week of August* prior to beginning first semester online classes.

Legal Applications | Semester Two, Year One | Syracuse
Residency #2 – Six days, first week of January* prior to beginning second semester online classes.
*Dates are tentative and subject to change.
Professional Skills | Semester Five, Year Two | Syracuse
Residency #3 / #4 – Six days, first week of January* prior to beginning fifth semester online classes.
Students will select one or two experiential courses for a total of 3 credits to satisfy both the #3 and #4 residency requirements. Course offerings have included:
- Negotiation (1.5 credits)
- Lawyer as Counselor (1.5 credits)
- Model Rules to Role Models (1.5 credits)
- Oral Advocacy (1.5 credits)
- Administrative Representation for Veterans (1.5 credits)
- Trial Practice (3 credits)
*Dates are tentative and subject to change. Residencies 3 and 4 may be completed concurrently.
Advanced Legal Topics | Year Three and/or Four |Dates and Locations Vary
Residency #5 / #6 – Four to five days each, to be completed in your third and/or fourth year.
Students will complete two separate Advanced Topics Residencies. Course offerings have included the following:
- Start Ups & Venture Capital
- Arbitration
- The Corporate Lawyer in a Sustainable World
- Employment Discrimination
- Bankruptcy
- Crypto and Digital Currency
- Franchising
- Elder Law
*Dates and offered topics will vary. Residencies #5 and #6 cannot be completed concurrently. New topics are added annually.
